Serious consulting is a management consultancy dedicated to helping companies achieve sustainable business performance.
Sustainable business practices are as relevant when discussing human potential as they are when discussing natural resources. Waste, whether it be related to natural resources or human resources, tax our environment, destroy potential and produce no value to all stakeholders concerned.
Serious consulting helps people at all levels in an organization understand the link between their behaviour and the achievement of the desired sustainable business results. We do this by providing people with the skills to understand the processes and systems they work within and confidence to successfully change these processes along with their behaviour, where necessary, in order to achieve the desired outcomes.
Serious consulting also helps companies establish and maintain systems and processes that effectively and meaningfully manage and reinforce the highest levels of performance while minimising wasteful activities; be they related to environmental factors or human factors.
Purpose
The purpose of Serious Consulting’s sustainability policy is to formalise and articulate the values, behaviours and actions that guide our company’s interactions with the environment – natural, social and business.
Objective
The objective of this policy is to increase customer value by implementing improved business practices leading to resource optimisation via waste reduction.
Scope
The policy covers all operations and activities of Serious Consulting personnel and systems they work and interact within.
The Serious Consulting Sustainability Policy
The foundations of the Serious Consulting sustainability policy are based on our values. These values provide the guiding principles by which we run our business. They are:

Human Dignity
Our business activities place us in front of many people on a daily basis. As a result we have the opportunity to affect the lives of everyone we come in contact with. Our aim is to always show respect for people and to make the time they spend working with us valuable and profitable as well as enjoyable. We do this by considering the opinions and thoughts of others — people's thoughts and positions are the result of experience and knowledge. Giving everyone a "fair-go" allows them the opportunity of bringing out their best.
Customers – our aim is to foster “life” long associations with our customers so that we can grow as they grow. We can only achieve this by providing value through all of our interactions and by maintaining healthy and mutually beneficial relationships.
Suppliers – provide us with the materials and resources we require to deliver our service. We are only as good as our suppliers, hence we pay them the same respect we do our customers. As such we aim for single source suppliers who feel they are a part of our business. Treating others as we’d like to be treated we pay all our suppliers within 7 days of invoice. We actively seek out suppliers which have sustainable practices such as the implementation of ISO14001 and reduce, re-use and recycle programs.
Employees – our employees have access to flexible work arrangements which allow them to work from home, minimising commute time and environmental impact while enhancing their productive time. We regard our employees as partners in our success and we consult with them on a regular basis to ensure their satisfaction. Personal development and training is provided to maintain their professional qualifications and motivation.
Community – our company directors involve themselves in community based activities. Currently our involvement spans a community based football club which has implemented sustainable practices such as cycle to the ground and car pooling to reduce environmental impacts; the support of fair trade organisations; community and global organisations such as The Buckminster Fuller Institute (perhaps the originators of sustainable living).
Products & Services – our products and services are designed to enhance the lives of people while delivering benefits to their business, their customers and the wider community. Customers are surveyed at the end of every assignment, and business improvement measures and processes are built into every job we undertake.
Independence of thought
We endeavour to examine situations without bias or prejudice, hence we use data and facts to assess and measure performance. We strive to get to the root of problems, by not simply accepting the "conventional wisdom." In some cases this means declining assignments if we are required to secure short term wins for the sake of longer term sustainability.
Dantotsu
Dantotsu is Japanese for "always more than, always better than.” It means the continuous improvement of services & products, processes, relationships between customers and suppliers and organisational cultures.
"Less is More" is a strong theme in the Dantotsu mindset—the less waste, the more value that can be added. We focus on efficiency by the removal of waste, be it material, time or human effort. This is our commitment to never "resting on our laurels" but always continuing to improve.
